We start this tour by heading along the banks of the River Clyde and visit the impressive Newark Castle, dating from the 1400s in Port Glasgow. We then headed along the River Clyde to the great Victorian city of Glasgow. The first place we head for is George Square to view the stunning Glasgow City Chambers (City Hall). We next stop at Glasgow Cathedral to explore this huge medieval cathedral. We continue through the busy Barras market to Glasgow Green to view the Peoples Palace and the former Templeton carpet factory (a real gem of a building). We then head along the River Clyde again and into the handsome West End of Glasgow before heading out of the city and into the countryside.
One interesting detour for you could be to visit Glengoyne Whisky distillery for a tour and a wee dram. We then arrive at the Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park at the delightful village of Drymen. Next we head to the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond, driving up the small east side road which has the best views and doesn't allow buses! Its then a comfortable drive back to Greenock, with great views as travel by the River Clyde again. |
